Statement
For several years Abigail Simpson has worked with the theme of the vessel, constantly developing and expanding physical possibilities through surface and scale.
The process of 'engineering' the forms of her tall and almost architectural objects has formed a fundamental development in the artists work. Through the desire of abandoning any semblance of traditional studio based ''pottery', Simpson intelligently challenges the problematic nature of working with pure sculptural forms.
Beyond the shape and volume of an object, Simpson is interested in the raw and crude properties of her materials. She glorifies the mysterious portrayal of expression through glorifying the tactile nature of sensuality.
