Caroline Kha's Postkarten Project
“All journeys have secret destinations of which the traveler is unaware.” – Martin Buber
To celebrate 2012 Olympics - on the 11th August 2012, come on a unique travel adventure with multidisciplinary artist, Caroline Kha, for the launch of the POSTKARTEN Project hosted by Debut Contemporary Gallery in Notting Hill. With people from all over the world coming to London to watch the Games, the special Live Art Event offers a unique and intimate opportunity to witness and take part in this collaborative art project exploring postcard images and stories of travel. The POSTKARTEN Project celebrates personal stories, history and discovery of new destinations through postcards.
Kha is an Australian London based artist whose work explores themes of memory, travel and romanticisation of place. The aim of the POSTKARTEN project is to gather old postcards for the creation of new work. POSTKARTEN project started with Kha’s desire to learn more about the unknown and obscure places she found depicted in old postcards. Participants in the project are invited to submit postcards they have collected or received. Locations will be researched and mapped in an online collaboration with Mike Chang to produce an imap of postcard images connected to local historical information and personal stories.
POSTKARTEN Project will be launched at a special Live Art Event at Debut Contemporary Gallery on the 11th August. The day will bring together all elements of Kha’s practice and will include live painting and launch of the POSTKARTEN – VOYAGES book which will tour internationally. Activities planned for the day will include local audiences creating their own postcards through drawing or text collage. 10% of all sales proceed on the day will go to The Travel Foundation project 'Make Holidays Greener’, a UK charity who develop and promote sustainable travel and tourism.
To join the POSTKARTEN Project and to take part in this adventure of travel, we’d love to hear from you.
