John Clair | The Work

Statement

John Clair is a graphic portrait artist who has been especially focused in developing and improving his talent in recent years following a period of depression in 2007. Whilst he has been an active practitioner since childhood, the outcome of his personal difficulty gave him a renewed vigour to pursue a career in the arts.

His process involves making highly detailed pencil drawings that are taken from photographs before working on top of the original graphite drawing using black fine liner and brushed inks to create the final image. It can often take in excess of 70 – 100 hours to complete his work.

He has exhibited across East London in various group exhibitions and even, in his home borough of Walthamstow, and arranged a group exhibition entitled MOVEMENT:Walthamstow with more events planned for the near future.
