Katherine Tromans | The Work
Primarily practicing as an Illustrator Katherine Tromans loves the challenge of translating text into image. She likes to push boundaries with her practice to see where it takes her, whether it is by medium or subject matter.
Her work is initially inspired by fairy tales, fiction, and the mind; and will often draw upon places that she has visited, with snippets of these locations featuring in her paintings and drawings.
Katherine’s current work focuses on the interpretations of other people’s paradises. These are constructed with detailed pencil line work, which is delicate and almost web-like in its appearance, creating a fluidity to the work. This is then combined with luminous shades of acrylic paint to give an otherworldly quality and vibrance, offering the viewer an escapism into the worlds that she creates.
Alongside her studies Katherine has a keen interest in fashion illustration, and after entering an open brief competition for ‘Amelia’s Compendium of Fashion Illustration,’ she was selected as one of the Illustrators to feature within the book, illustrating ethical designer’s such as Eugene Lin, Camilla Norrback and Edun. As a result, she has since continued to produce fashion illustrations for magazines such as Elle Magazine and Sketchbook Magazine.
