Nicole Legendre | The Work
Statement
Nicole Legendre born in 1981 in Paris, lives and works today in London . She began her studies at the University of Paris VIII of art. she decided to spend couple of months in the west indies in order to experience a different type of environment in her personal creative research. In 2004 she met Barthélémy Toguo who was affiliated with the university. and collaborated on his project « The SICK OPERA » 13 oct.-18 janv. 2005 Paris Palais de Tokyo. After she showcased her art work and finish her first year studying Master in art she decided to move to London to get new opportunity.
Legendre uses Japanese Geometric patterns to give a graphic dynamic on the background of the paintings. Painting pouring is one of several techniques that allows her to express a combination between action painting and figurative representation. Painting screaming and suffering faces of figures allow her to express her anxiety transforming it into a creativity fuel and passionate energy. The work develops as patchworks in which every fragment (from cloth african fabric, to sheet metal etc.) is envisaged as a living experience, encountering one another, establishing an experimental unity. All of this happens in the melting pot of felt experiences that becomes the painting. It is a ship’s log in her own coded language – a personal diary conveyed to the spectator.
