STRANGMACFARLANE | THE WORK

STATEMENT

StrangMacfarlane's distinctively British work explores and exploits the intricacies of the relationship between viewer and artwork. Their works play on the unwritten etiquette and understandings that govern the gallery and tackle the pre-conceived values the viewer attaches to the art, the artist and one's self as a conscious body.

StrangMacfarlane are aware that in today's saturated art landscape it is more difficult than ever for an artist to produce an arresting, memorable artwork. Far from shying away this becomes a running theme in their often self-reflexive and direct works. As a viewer one can expect to be met with the strange sensation both of being insulted and of being in on the joke. It is the joke that plays a vital role in their communication, StrangMacfarlane effectively use humor as a tool to highlight a point or reduce an idea. It is this concise use of comedy mixed with rationality and empathy that gives their unique, entertaining work great depth.
