Won Jaeyoun | The Work
Statement
All of us may have a feeling of “inconvenience”. This is maximised when conflicts exist between the external environment and what people have inside. Every individual has different and various channels to express inconvenient feelings. Some people directly show how they feel but others, like me, express it indirectly. Silence is one of the methods of indirect expression. Despite the deep silence, the thirst of inconvenient feelings is not drenched. While people hide this feeling, naturally, it is mixed with many other feelings and creates inner conflicts.
The inconvenient feelings caused by the “endless creating behaviours” from many artists are expressed through Won Jaeyoun's work. Whilst he creates blurred behaviours by cutting and piling them up, these inconvenient feelings still remain. Sometimes Won Jaeyoun will copy imagery around to kill the creating behaviours.
The more we read words and images, recorded by the artist, they become more unreadable, amplifying unanswered questions – a passive attitude towards inconvenience and a silent cry to “let inconvenience be as it is”. If nobody were to address this “inconvenience” it will be blurred as time goes and it's existence itself would be meaningful. Inconvenience could be another unique language – a tool of creation.
